Dark Chocolate Granola Recipe (Crunchy, Healthy & Easy Breakfast)

Hey friends! Today I’m sharing one of my absolute favorite breakfast recipes Dark Chocolate Granola. It’s crunchy, chocolatey, and full of yummy nuts and seeds that give you energy to start the day. I even add berries, hemp seeds, cacao nibs, and a splash of milk to make it extra tasty and healthy!

This recipe is super easy to make and will make your kitchen smell amazing. Let’s get started!

Method in Detail

Preheating the Oven

To start, preheat your oven to 170°C (about 340°F). This step is important because you want your oven to be nice and hot when the granola goes in. That way, it bakes evenly and turns out golden and crisp.

Mixing the Ingredients

Next, grab a large mixing bowl and begin adding all your ingredients. This includes the oats, cacao powder, melted coconut oil, maple syrup, flaked almonds, chopped almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, desiccated coconut, pumpkin seeds, vanilla paste, a pinch of salt, and the chopped dark chocolate. It might seem like a lot at first, but once everything comes together, it’s a beautiful mix of textures and flavors.

Make sure the coconut oil is fully melted before adding it to the bowl. This helps everything coat evenly. Now, using a wooden spoon or spatula, give it a really good mix. Stir until every oat and nut is covered in the chocolatey goodness. You’ll know it’s ready when the mixture looks evenly dark and shiny from the cacao and oil.

Spreading the Mixture

Now it’s time to prepare your baking sheet. Line it with parchment paper so nothing sticks. Then, spread the granola mixture out in a thin, even layer. This is super important! If it’s piled up in clumps, some parts might not bake fully or could burn. Use your spoon or spatula to press and flatten it gently into a single layer.

Baking the Granola

Place the baking sheet in your preheated oven and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes. But here’s a tip check it around the 18-minute mark to make sure it’s not browning too fast. Every oven is a little different, and since this recipe includes lots of nuts and coconut, things can go from golden to burnt quickly.

You’re looking for a toasty, slightly golden color   especially around the edges. That’s when you’ll know it’s just right.

Cooling and Breaking It Up

Once it’s out of the oven, the hard part is waiting! But you need to let the granola cool completely   for at least 30 minutes. This step helps it firm up and turn crunchy. If you try to move or break it apart too soon, it might still be soft and won’t have that perfect granola crunch.

After it’s cool, go ahead and break it into pieces using your hands or a spoon. You can make big chunky clusters or smaller bits depending on how you like it.

Storing Your Granola

Finally, transfer the granola to an airtight container. It should stay fresh and crunchy for up to two weeks   if it lasts that long!

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups or kitchen scale

Ingredients

  • 200g oats

  • 50g cacao powder

  • 80g coconut oil (melted)

  • 100ml maple syrup

  • 50g flaked almonds

  • 60g almonds (chopped)

  • 60g hazelnuts (chopped)

  • 50g pecans (chopped)

  • 50g desiccated coconut

  • 50g pumpkin seeds

  • 1 tsp vanilla paste

  • Pinch of salt

  • 50g dark chocolate (chopped)

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 170°C (about 340°F).
  • In a big bowl, mix all the ingredients together yes, everything! Make sure the coconut oil is melted so it blends nicely.
  • Stir well until everything looks chocolatey and coated.
  • Spread the mixture evenly on a lined baking sheet. You don’t want clumps   a nice flat layer works best.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes. Keep an eye on it. You want it golden and toasty but not burned.
  • Let the granola cool for 30 minutes. Don’t touch it yet   this is how it gets nice and crunchy!
  • Once it’s cool, break it into pieces and store in a jar or container.

Notes

  • Don’t skip the cooling time   the granola hardens as it cools. If you break it up too soon, it’ll be soft, not crunchy.
  • Watch the oven closely in the last few minutes. Nuts can burn quickly!
  • Spread the mix evenly   clumps may stay soggy or burn.
  • Make sure the coconut oil is fully melted, or it won’t mix well with the oats and powder.

Serving Suggestions
